According to Al-sharq Al-Awsat newspaper (August 9, 2004), a senior executive at the Egyptian Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals and Medical Appliances estimated the value of the total pharmaceuticals production in Egypt in fiscal year 2003/2004, which ended in the middle of the current year, at EP 6 billion ($970 million). The same executive added that this production level satisfies 93% of the total local consumption of pharmaceuticals.
