Consumer groups are pressing Congress for a full, federal investigation after learning that a cow, a Limousin, which exhibited symptoms of a disorder of the central nervous system, passed through inspection for slaughter in south central Texas.
The Texas Agriculture Department said it first learned of the cow on April 30--two days after the animal was taken for slaughter at Lone Star Beef, San Angelo, TX.
Agriculture Department officials said a veterinarian at the slaughterhouse condemned the animal after seeing it stagger and fall, indicating that it was either injured or sick with a neurological disorder, such as rabies or bovine ...
