Aug. 7--While hybrid vehicles are revving up on the auto scene, some local owners of these combination gasoline and electric autos say they are getting lower mileage than expected.
Most say, however, they are still satisfied with their cars' overall performance.
Toyota's hybrid vehicle, the Prius, averages about 60 miles per gallon in the city and 51 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
But Jim Frierson, a Prius owner, said he gets about 20 miles less per gallon than the car's 60 mpg EPA rating, blaming the lower than expected fuel efficiency on Chattanooga's hilly terrain.
