The large, furry animal a Florence, Ky., family hit with its car earlier this month was most likely a black bear, lab tests have shown.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife sent hair samples from the car to a Tennessee lab which confirmed that the hairs were consistent with those of a black bear.
"That's about as positive as it can get," said Mark Marraccini, spokesman for the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Laura Hermann and her family were traveling on Weaver Road near Interstate 75 about 10:30 p.m. June 1 when what appeared to be a black bear wandered into the roadway.
