Jun. 7--Passenger traffic dropped 10.1 percent at Pittsburgh International Airport in April, the biggest decline since last October, when many travelers were still skittish about flying because of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The April plunge represents a reversal of fortunes for the airport. Passenger volumes had been steadily improving since October, with March traffic down only 3.8 percent compared to March 2001.

But JoAnn Jenny, communications director for the Allegheny County Airport Authority, said officials fully expected the drop. She predicted there will be more to come.
