Aug. 7--Manheim Auto Auction is laying off 113 security guards, telling them they can apply for jobs with an outside security firm that has been hired to replace them.
In a letter dated Wednesday, the auction notified the workers that their last day on the job will be Friday, Aug. 13.
However, they will draw pay and benefits through Oct. 3, putting the auction in compliance with federal law that requires 60-day notice of major layoffs.
The layoffs come only months after the auction spent $12 million to double its acreage.
