DETROIT _ A new ferry is carrying passengers across Lake Michigan, challenging a venerable favorite.
The Lake Express is 2 months old, to the day. The SS Badger has been at it for 51 years.
The Lake Express is sleek, trim and fast, flying on twin hulls between Muskegon, Mich., and Milwaukee at 42 miles per hour. The Badger is a vast, heavy ship, lumbering between the smaller towns of Ludington, Mich., and Manitowoc, Wis. A kid _ or an adult _ could easily get disoriented, or delightfully lost, on the Badger.
The Lake Express, with no seats outside and windows that do not open, might as well be an airplane. The ...
