It has been about three decades since we were first told that soccer was going to be the next great sport in America.
We're still waiting.
In the pantheon of America professional sports, soccer is still virtually off the radar screen. While Major League Soccer survives, it is hardly thriving.
And for 30 years, the small but vocal American soccer community has insulted the rest of the American sporting public by implying America doesn't get soccer because the game is too cerebral and sophisticated.
Well, I'm a soccer fan. I have been since I first played the game when I was 10 years old back in 1975.
