PHILADELPHIA _ Bob Costas is past the point where he needs to be at many major sports events.
Costas is comfortable doing some sports, some entertainment, some news (but no soft shoe).
While NBC Sports is in the homestretch of its NBA contract, and no longer is in the baseball or NFL business, there is enough for Costas to do at the network for him to stay.
That Costas also can fit in his popular weekly HBO show, "On the Record," is another reason Costas is extending his 22-year NBC association at least through the 2006 Winter Olympics.
