AKRON, Ohio _ When her daughter broke down sobbing Tuesday afternoon, Narda Goff did what any mother would do.
She handed her a box of tissues across the table that separated them in a Summit County (Ohio) courtroom.
The simple gesture magnified the skewered dynamics of the family: A mother sent to prison for three years for helping her husband impregnate her teen-age daughter _ the same daughter she now was trying to comfort.
"I just can't understand why you failed to protect your child," Common Pleas Judge John Adams said. "I think she'll suffer more than you, Mrs. Goff."
