Boom times could hardly be better -- or more tumultuous -- for Miguel Mancera Aguayo, the director of Mexico's central bank.

"We are witnessing a 'reintermediation' of borrowing in Mexico," Mr. Mancera told the American Banker.

"That had led to sharp growth in Mexican bank assets over the last two to three years."

Second Tour of Duty

Technically, Mr. Mancera is in his second tour as director of Banco de Mexico. He became governor of the central bank of the first time in March, 1982.
