CARACAS, Venezuela _ Cari is a real estate agent in downtown Caracas' upscale business district. She's an energetic, educated member of an upper-middle-class family that runs a consumer goods store in town.
But her budding career as a wheeler-dealer hit an unexpected barrier last month when four of five deals she was about to close instead collapsed. Clients were suddenly afraid, she said, of making down payments in a country violently thrust into uncertainty.
