VANCOUVER, British Columbia _ The Red Wings are on the verge of advancing into Round 2 of the NHL playoffs without a single goal from the man whose deft hands once clinched the Stanley Cup.
Right wing Brett Hull has produced 16 shots and a few chances, but nothing concrete. Yet the Wings have rallied from a two-game deficit to take a 3-2 series lead into Saturday night's game at General Motors Place. Their ability to surge without goals from Hull, who in 1999 scored the championship-winning goal for Dallas, is a tribute to the team's scoring depth, and to Hull's vastly underrated defensive game.
