MONTEREY, Calif. _ Monterey County will have to walk a tightrope to balance the demands of residents and wine growers in Carmel Valley.
Wednesday the county Planning Commission received a report on wineries, cottage industries and wine-tasting rooms within the Carmel Valley Plan Area as part of the county General Plan update process.
The report, prepared by associate planner Taven M. Kinison Brown, identifies 14 "wine specific" businesses in operation or approved in the valley, most of them in the area of Carmel Valley Village.
They include one winery with its own tasting room _ Chateau Julien _ four "microwineries" ...
