An agonizing problem for millions of working parents is finding affordable childcare.
"Affordable care is something that doesn't force the family to live in poverty _ it should be no more than 20 percent of a family's income above the poverty level ($17,500 a year for a couple with two children)," said Barbara Bergmann, of Washington, D.C., an economist who has focused on welfare, child care and economic and social policies since 1982.
"Right now, only 2 million children get government help in paying for child care, which middle-class parents also need," Bergmann said.
