Aug. 10--The Norwalk-based designer of a handbag it developed for young women has insisted in federal court in New York City that it did not copy a pocketbook manufactured by accessories giant Louis Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton, a division of France's LVMH Group, has charged that Norwalk-based Dooney & Bourke infringed on its trademark when it created its "It" bag and brought it to the market in the fall of 2003. Sold in stores including Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom's and the May Co., as well Dooney & Bourke stores in New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Yokohama, Japan, the "It" bag sells for $50 to $200.
