May 19--NORTH PORT, Fla.--Among the top 100 cities in Florida, North Port was the 13th fastest-growing city between 2000 and 2001.
According to the University of Florida's Bureau of Economic and Business Research report "Florida Estimates of Population 2001," the city of North Port grew by an estimated 2,437 residents from 2000 to 2001. More than 1,200 homes were built last year, increasing the population by 10.7 percent.
North Port's estimated population is 25,234; in 2000, the U.S. Census calculated the city's population at 22,797.
City Manager Mark Roath said the numbers have skyrocketed since 1990.
