May 22--Consumers switching from tape cassettes to CDs and VCDs fuelled a 106 percent jump in first-quarter profit of GMM Grammy Plc to 113 million baht.
The country's largest entertainment group reported 1.3 billion baht in sales, a 28.7 percent increase year-on-year.
Some 60 percent of the sales were contributed by the music business and the remaining revenue from radio, Internet and "edutainment" businesses.
Its sales of CDs and VCDs leaped 162 percent and 680 percent in value respectively, as the prices were sharply reduced last year.
