May 11--WILKES-BARRE, Pa.--The more often doctors perform cardiac surgeries, the better their patients will be.

That's the assessment of an independent state agency, which found that patient mortality rates for coronary bypass surgeries declined as cardiac physicians performed more heart surgeries.

Statewide, mortality rates for coronary surgeries fell 13 percent from 1995 to 2000, according to a study by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council.
