Lack of Hotel Deal Is Obstacle for Irving, Texas, Convention-Center Plans.

May 13--Just because architects will begin designing Irving's proposed convention center and hotel does not mean the complex is a done deal.

Far from it.

The more than $100 million project could still crumble before the city's eyes if a key piece - an adjoining hotel - does not soon fall into place.

And at least one Irving City Council member says land near Texas Stadium, not Las Colinas, may be the best place for the complex.

City officials are expected to hear back next month from hotel developer Stormont Hospitality Group on whether investors are willing to finance the 450-room hotel.
