May 6--Beware, New York -- the Garden State is lurking.
For nearly eight months, New Jersey has sat back while New Yorkers have scrambled to set up a process to redevelop the World Trade Center site.
As state and city politicians on this side of the Hudson haggled over how many board members each would get on the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., New Jersey never piped up.
It didn't have to.
The Port Authority owns the 16 acres in lower Manhattan, controlled equally by N.Y. Gov. Pataki and N.J. Gov. Jim McGreevey. All agency actions including redevelopment of Ground Zero are subject to review and veto by each governor.
