May 10--HARTFORD, Conn.--Scandal-plagued Envirotest Systems Corp. will hit the road next month despite a last-ditch attempt by the company to extend its auto-emissions testing contract.
And owners of up to 600,000 cars scheduled for testing after July 1 will get six- to eight- month reprieves while Agbar Technologies Inc. of Chicago sets up a new, decentralized program at about 300 garages and auto dealerships across the state.
Gary J. DeFilippo, DMV commissioner, on Thursday turned down Envirotest's offer to extend its $23 million annual contract.
