HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Civil engineer Agustin Montinola Jereza led the founding of the Southern Institute in 1927. It was anchored on the felt need to establish a private, non-sectarian educational institution offering affordable yet relatively high standards of instruction.

Its humble beginnings stood by a complete elementary education, which soon expanded to complete secondary education. Students learned the basics in education in a residential house along Colon Street, Cebu City.

In 1937, Southern Institute was renamed Southern College. Complete courses in the Arts & Sciences, Education, Commerce, Law and Engineering were opened.
