While refiners await the onset of environmental regs requiring them to upgrade diesel fuel, many oil marketers and additive manufacturers and blenders are developing their own markets for home-brewed premium diesel fuels. Refiners for the most part do not seem to have gotten the message as of yet.

The market for diesel fuel additives added downstream, that is, after the fuel leaves the refinery or pipeline, is estimated to be in the range of $75-million to $100-million annually and growing 25 %/yr. for the past four or five years. A new diesel additive supplier reports tripling sales for the past three years.
