Apr. 27--WILKES-BARRE, Pa.-- The Diamond City Partnership has commissioned a market study of what kind of businesses can thrive downtown. The cost to the city will be nothing.
The question then, according to City Council chair Tom Leighton, is why does Mayor Tom McGroarty want to pay a separate consultant to perform a separate downtown study?
The partnership of downtown businesses is hiring three consultants to compile extensive statistics on what kind of downtown businesses the area can support. Gibbs Planning Group of Birmingham, Mich., Lincoln Properties and Chance Management Advisers, both of Philadelphia, will conduct the study.
