May 1--Construction executive Louis P. Ciminelli was elected chairman of the state Power Authority on Tuesday, putting a Western New Yorker at the head of the agency that supplies low-cost power to industrial employers.
The authority's 21 plants produce more than 5,200 megawatts of electricity, making it one of New York's largest suppliers.
Ciminelli's election by the authority's five-member board comes as the agency works to renew its federal license for the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston. The relicensing process, which will decide how Niagara power is divided, is seen as a key for regional economic development.
