May 1--New Mexico's dairy industry's continued expansion is right in line with the national industry trend -- a move to the West, according to dairy specialists.
New Mexico's milk production during March reached 536 million pounds, an increase of 17 percent from February 2001 and an increase of 15 percent more than the previous month's 467 million pounds. Milk production per cow in March averaged 1,830 pounds compared with 1,760 pounds the same time last year, according to the New Mexico Agricultural Statistics Service's Weekly Ag Update.
