May 2--In Massachusetts, there's a heated campaign for governor and deputy governor in which candidates are bragging about their venture capital credentials.

So why isn't VC playing much of a role in the governor's race in California, the center of the world's VC industry?

For one, incumbent Gov. Gray Davis has no VC history.
