Aug. 2--Steve Jobs, the visionary leader of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, said Sunday he underwent successful surgery over the weekend for a rare and treatable form of pancreatic cancer.
Jobs, 49, said he expects to return to work at Cupertino-based Apple in September. Timothy Cook, Apple's executive vice president of worldwide sales and operations, will take over day-to-day operations in the interim.
Famous for personally unveiling every new Apple product, Jobs also took direct control in announcing his illness -- sending an e-mail to all Apple employees that the company forwarded to the media.
