DETROIT _ General Motors Corp., a pioneer in making antilock brake systems standard across its vehicle line, is removing them, as well as side air bags, as standard equipment from most of its 58 vehicles beginning with the 2003 model year.
Antilock brakes are standard equipment on 52 of GM's models, while side air bag systems are standard on 31.
Customers who want antilock brakes will have to purchase them as an option on such vehicles as the Chevy Cavalier, Oldsmobile Intrigue, Chevy Venture minivan and Chevy Envoy. Other vehicles that are affected by making side air bags optional include the Chevy Montana, ...
