The events of Sept. 11 changed many things in the United States, including the unspoken "contract" you have with your employer and your expectations of what the company should do for you.

"Before Sept. 11, the business contract was, I do a job, I want to be productive and I want to get paid for it. But I'm responsible for designing my life outside the workplace _ its satisfaction and meaning," said Solange Charas, president of Charas Consulting, Inc. a New York management consulting firm that specializes in human resources and compensation.
