Despite publishing and advertising industries hammered by the recession, plus a new state tax on publications, the top printers in the Southland saw their revenues increase in 1991, based on the Business Journal's List of the 25 largest printing companies here (see page 24).
Combined sales of the top four printing companies increased 6 percent from $922 million in 1990 to $977 million in 1991, according to information provided by the companies and borrowed from the December 1991 issue of Printing Impressions Top 500 List.
"It is amazing in the face of the economic crisis we're facing," commented Ewel Grossberg, chairman of George Rice & Sons of Los Angeles.
