ORLANDO, Fla. _ Florida growers hustled to protect millions of dollars' worth of plants Wednesday night as temperatures dropped dangerously close to freezing.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne, Fla., issued a freeze warning through Thursday morning for Lake and Volusia counties. Chilly overnight temperatures were expected to go as low as 32 degrees.
The Orlando area was forecast to reach the mid-30s overnight.
"We're certainly concerned about it, even though we have equipment to keep warm," said Dodson Manly, manager of the 90-acre MerryGro Farms near Eustis. "We'll be here all night, going from ...
