PHILADELPHIA _ Pedophilia isn't curable, experts say, but treatment can help most pedophiles control their sexual urges toward children.
"As with most psychopathology, the issue is not a cure, but management," said David Ingle, a psychologist and director of adult programs at Joseph J. Peters Institute in Philadelphia, which treats sex offenders and victims.
"If someone is considered a pedophile, it's a large part of that person's character structure," he said.
Therapy, he said, generally can't stop people from having the desire to molest children, he said, but it can help them to avoid acting on it.
