Apr. 19--A. Alfred Taubman stands out among the country's white-collar criminals for his wealth and charitable giving.
Taubman, 78, is to be sentenced Monday for price-fixing. In December, a jury in New York found him guilty of conspiring to end price competition between his auction house, Sotheby's, and rival Christie's International.
With a personal fortune of at least $770 million, Taubman is probably the wealthiest man from Michigan ever to stand trial for a white-collar crime, says Peter Henning, an associate professor at Wayne State University's law school who specializes in white-collar criminal law.
