The Albany Medical Center patient, who needs a new heart, was among hundreds of people who marked the second anniversary of the hospital's heart transplant program at a luncheon celebration there Sunday.
Originally expected to perform about a dozen transplants a year, Albany Med doctors have performed 56 transplants to date -- a number deemed significant because excellence in such surgical programs is achieved through doing a large number of cases, experts say.
The idea, essentially, is practice makes perfect.
