Comparison of Kmart Finds Lower, Comparable Prices at Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania.

Mar. 25--WILKES-BARRE TWP., Pa.--With its back against the wall, Kmart has few options to turn around its struggling business.

One of them, a longtime store watcher said, is not a head-to-head price war with Wal-Mart.

That's a war Kmart can't win.

In a Times Leader comparison of 20 identical items between the two retailers, Wal-Mart either matched or had lower prices.

Alone, the 5 cents a shopper saves on toothpaste or the 11 cents saved on paper towels won't send a Kmart customer across town to shop at Wal-Mart.
