Mar. 21--ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.--An Atlanta real-estate firm plans next week to close on a deal to buy 14 acres off State Road 436 west of Altamonte Mall and turn it into a city center.

Vlass Group LLC has been under contract since January to buy the existing retail complex and property from Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and is scheduled to complete the purchase Wednesday, owner Michael B. Vlass said. He would not disclose the price.

The site, along the east side of Cranes Roost Boulevard south of Cranes Roost Park, once held a busy shopping center anchored by Home Depot.
