Mar. 10--LAKE WALES, Fla. -- Gloria Christian has fond memories of when her mom would buy school clothes for her at the Kmart in Lake Wales.
"It's always been one of my favorite stores," Christian, 43, said standing outside the store, ready to find bargains inside. "It will be missed."
Kmart Corp., the nation's third-biggest discount retailer after Wal-Mart and Target, announced Friday that it will close 284 under-performing stores, including the Lake Wales Big Kmart at 1970 State Road 60 E.
"Kmart has been our life," said Christian of Bartow. "I raised my kids out of Kmart."
