And lest we forget. A word about our forgotten heroes--the officials. Are we wrong in believing that the officiating has become surprisingly good?

"Surprising" because with all its immensely intensified speed and physicality, the game has become murderously difficult to officiate--and yet it is being done by a lot of no-name whistle-blowers.

Look at the Hall of Fame officials that put the game on the map in the '30s and '40s: Jim Enright, Pat Kennedy, John Nucatola, Earl Strom, Ernest Quigley, J. Dallas Shirley, Red Mihalik, Dave Tobey, and Dave Walsh.
