Firms urged to humanize WC process. (workers' compensation)

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Condemning those who have forgotten the human side of workers' compensation, a labor leader startled attendees at a recent conference by shouting: "I never want to hear the word human |resource' again!"

"No wonder there are problems in the workers' compensation system...People are not to be used up and thrown away," said Marty Foley, legislative director for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO in Boston, during the Workers' Compensation Research Institute's annual meeting.

Urging employers to start thinking of their workers as people and not as "resources," he said that if he could, he would "go into all of your offices and tear your damn human resource signs ...
