JUST WHEN you thought it was safe to take a pint of beer and a packet of crisps into the pub garden . . . when you thought a picnic in the park wasn't such a bad idea after all . . . they're back.

I'm talking about wasps, of course, that most antisocial of flying and stinging insects. In recent years, their numbers have dwindled quietly away, so much so that spotting one was at one time worthy of comment.

But you will have no trouble spotting them this summer. The nasty little varmints, with their threatening yellow and black stripes and vicious sting, are everywhere.
