PASSENGER levels at Britain's leading airports have soared above pre-September 11 levels for the first time.
Airports operator BAA - which owns seven airports including Heathrow and Gatwick - handled a record number of travellers last month on long-haul flights, with 3.9m passengers flying beyond Europe's shores.
The number of flights to the US rose 12.3pc compared with June while those to other long-haul destinations increased by 14.6pc.
