Suit Challenges Los Altos, Calif., Ban on Work Solicitation.

Feb. 21--Day laborer advocates have filed a federal lawsuit against Los Altos, saying the city's law banning the solicitation of work from sidewalks and streets violates workers' constitutional rights to free speech.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose late Tuesday by current and former day laborers known as the Workers' Commission. Mountain View, which together with Los Altos was threatened with legal action over their job solicitation laws, was not named in the suit.
