WASHINGTON -- The Gas Research Institute will file an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission today or Thursday for a modification in the funding mechanism for itself, says a GRI spokesman.

The modification will deal with the problem that has developed over the ability to collect the GRI surcharge on discounted natural gas sales, says Tom Leuchtenburg, director of government relations at GRI.

He declined to release any of the specifics of the GRI's proposed new funding mechanism, noting that it was still being reviewed by GRI's chairman and other key institute members.
