Feb. 15--Scientists bankrolled by a Bay Area-based company have unveiled the world's first cloned cat, a tiny, healthy shorthair calico kitten named CC, for "carbon copy." The cat, the only species of pet to be duplicated, brings cloning technology out of the barnyard and within reach of animal lovers seeking to duplicate their beloved felines.
But cloning is expensive and controversial, entailing the creation and demise of dozens of embryos to yield one successful birth.
