Federal overprotection and mismanagement have left some wildlife competing for a little home on the range.
Oatman, Arizona, is rarely touted in travel magazines, but a lot of people go there anyway. The big attraction here seems to be burros. Each day I was there, a dozen or so that supposedly are wild strolled into the one-street town. The burros may be wild, but they have a definite taste for tourists' ice-cream cones and don't mind snatching them from your hand when the opportunity arises.
Up in the Black Mountains east of Oatman lives a herd of desert bighorn sheep. Providence forgot to give those rare animals a taste for people or ice cream. They ...
