Feb. 8--Coats North America, whose Winsted specialty thread plant once ranked among the Northwest Corner's larger employers, will shut down the 45-year-old operation in April and move some of the work into its newer and bigger Watertown plant.
North Carolina-based Coats said the shutdown, scheduled for April 6, will affect 35 employees at the 120 Colebrook River Road plant in Winsted. Work there will also be transferred to Coats' plants in Marion, N.C., the Bronx, N.Y., and Arthur, Ont., in Canada.
