Five companies, all proposing low-earth-orbit satellite ventures, last week filed for pioneer's preference designations at the FCC. The proposals include: Constellation Communications Inc., Ellipsat Corp., Loral/Qualcomm Satellite Services Inc., Motorola Satellite Communications Inc. (Iridium) and TRW Inc.
And yet another MSS entrant, Crescomm Transmission Services Inc., also has filed a petition for rule making and a pioneer's preference. A pioneer's preference designation favors those proposals, seeking an operating license, that promote first time and new spectrum-efficient technologies.
