Assuming that Major League Baseball will award the Montreal Expos franchise to another area this year, in order to begin playing in its new home for the 2005 season, it has no business alternative other than to award the franchise to Norfolk.
Old-time baseball purists and announcers to the contrary, the economics of baseball places predominant emphasis on media-related income. Take the announcement by George Steinbrenner of the New York Yankees that, for the past year, its media net income was $190 million compared to $10 million for the operation of the ball club.
